We stand in firm solidarity with Black-led and Black-centered nonprofit partners, donors, volunteers and neighbors throughout Eastern Washington, North Idaho and beyond

Our country is at a crossroads and at Innovia Foundation, we are committed to being on the right side of history during this moment. Let it be known that we stand in firm solidarity with Black-led and Black-centered nonprofit partners, donors, volunteers and neighbors throughout Eastern Washington, North Idaho and beyond in a call to action and commitment to put an end to the senseless murders, racial violence, and racially motivated injustices our Black, Indigenous and People of Color continue to experience.

To that end, as your community foundation, we categorically commit to:

  • Equitable and participatory grantmaking – seeking feedback and guidance from persons of color in grant decision making processes
  • Enforcing our anti-hate policy – prohibiting personal or institutional funding from being distributed to organizations that Innovia Foundation knows or has reason to believe support or engage in hateful activities
  • Ongoing listening and (un)learning – with a commitment to participate and provide space for uncomfortable and necessary conversations on racial equity at all levels of our organization and stakeholder community
  • Philanthropic Advocacy – joining with other funders and grantmaking institutions nationally and locally to fight for policies and reforms that advance racial justice and equity
  • Transparency – publish the demographic profile of the foundation staff and board (Guidestar) and commit to Foundation leadership that represents the communities we serve

We will not accept business as usual. Our Black community, Indigenous and other communities of color, are experiencing a disproportionate impact from COVID-19 and we acknowledge the continuous trauma experienced from racially motivated injustices on top of that. We will continue to support our marginalized communities through philanthropic efforts now and into the future and are actively calling on our partners to do the same

We do not have all the answers. We know we have a lot of unlearning, listening, and relearning before we can even begin to act in many areas. But we recognize that actions must be taken, and we know that it is our duty, as a community foundation representing everyone in our region, to commit to being part of the process.

We want to hear from our community. If you have feedback, want to discuss where we’ve been or where we are going, have clarifying questions or want to join in our effort click here to get in contact with our team. We invite you to stay connected with us as we continue this important work.
