Carl Maxey Center Supports African American-Owned Businesses

The Carl Maxey Center in Spokane received a $20,000 grant from the COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund for Eastern Washington to create a part-time, temporary community support position to assist African American business owners in identifying and accessing resources.

“What Spokane’s African American community desperately needs right now is targeted assistance, directed specifically at our community, that will act as both a safety net to keep our businesses and students from losing ground and a bridge through the current COVID-19 crisis to the other side,” said Sandra Williams, Executive Director of the Carl Maxey Center.

The grant supported the Center in providing effective one-on-one outreach, navigation and coaching to enable African American-owned businesses to survive the pandemic.
