Professional Advisor Spotlight: Robyn McGinnity

Growing up, Robyn McGinnity was always fascinated by obituaries, noticing how each summary of a person’s life held a meaningful story. Later learning the significance of leaving a legacy at the end of life, she was drawn to a career as an estate planning attorney. Now a professional advisor serving the Spokane region, Robyn helps her clients determine how to use their charitable inclinations effectively to create the greatest impact.

Robyn always felt a calling toward service. She began her journey working in public interest law in her home state of  Wisconsin, offering free legal service to those who couldn’t afford the fees. She then worked for the Oregon Department of Justice, taking on high intensity cases and providing high quality care within limited timeframes. Family circumstances eventually brought her to Spokane, where she worked in estate planning independently while raising her three children. Robyn had always taken note of unmet needs in her community, and as she transitioned to advising clients, she turned her attention to impactful legacy giving.

Robyn experienced loss herself when her husband of 18 years, Dan, passed unexpectedly.  This tragedy cemented her connection to leaving a legacy, as Dan left a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of all those around him.

In her practice, Robyn inspires others to create purpose after they are gone and, by doing so, she has also helped subdue fears surrounding death. As she supports and guides clients’ planned giving, she is mindful that “they are there to steer the ship;, we are just advisors.”

As she advises her clients on charitable giving, she also employs her expertise on making the most out of every gift.

“There’s often an inclination to create their own charitable entity, but it’s just not as efficient as a community foundation,” says Robyn.

Innovia Foundation is made better by  gracious partnerships with professional advisors like Robyn McGinnity across our region. Together, we can make the most out of all charitable gifts and ignite generosity that transforms lives and communities.
