Each Labor Day weekend, families from around Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho gather in two of the area’s beautiful parks to experience a special outdoor performance by the Spokane Symphony. The professional performing arts organization marks the end of summer with free concerts at both Comstock Park in Spokane and Pavilion Park in Liberty Lake. The concerts draw 11,000 attendees each year.
The cherished annual tradition began three decades ago. Thanks in part to a Community Strategies grant from Innovia Foundation, the Spokane Symphony will have financial support to continue its free community concert series for years to come.
The popular concerts are part of the Spokane Symphony’s community outreach efforts, which aim to increase accessibility and appreciation of the arts. For many concert-goers, it’s the only opportunity to hear the Spokane Symphony perform.
“We believe there is something so special about sharing, experiencing, and enjoying orchestral music outdoors, and we believe it is important that as many people as possible have access to truly exceptional live music,” said Jeff vom Saal, Spokane Symphony executive director.
