Potlatch Food Pantry received a $500 COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund grant to purchase food for the increased demand for those the pantry serves.
“We were a little nervous when COVID-19 hit and then the restrictions started. We figured we would get hit hard,” said Joan Bender, Moderator of Potlatch Food Bank. “So, with more families served in March than our average, we started getting ready for even more in April.” Their swift action and understanding of the community has allowed for the increase in demand.
To adhere to physical distancing recommendations, the pantry developed new guidelines to ensure safety for all volunteers. “The Potlatch Food Pantry is trying to keep everyone safe and protected. As times go on, things might change. We are working to keep on top of the needs in our area. Plus, residents are donating money for our pantry. We have been so blessed with our community,” said Bender.
