Mason was born in Spokane, just as the city was preparing for the World’s Fair. After graduating from Lewis and Clark High School, he attended Western Washington University (BA) and the Evergreen State College (MPA). While in Olympia, he spent 20 years conducting outcome evaluations and cost-benefit studies for the Washington State Institute for Public Policy, a non-partisan legislative research organization.
He returned to Spokane in 2005 to raise his children in the area. He recently completed an interdisciplinary degree at Washington State University Spokane in health services research (PhD). He currently teaches health economics in the WSU Health Policy and Administration graduate program. While Mason is undoubtedly a data cruncher, he also enjoys running in road races and trail hikes around the Inland Northwest with his family and friends.
