Innovia Foundation Awards Grant to Interlink, Launching Senior Social Directory
Within the senior population in Asotin County, there is a growing need for activities that bring people together and create opportunities for learning and engagement. Interlink, a nonprofit organization serving local seniors since 1984, launched a Senior Social Directory to connect seniors to their community and each other.
Available to over 14,000 seniors, the new directory collects information on senior social activities and organizations across Nez Perce and Asotin counties. A $10,000 grant from Innovia is jumpstarting the project by funding staffing, printing and distribution costs.
“A directory of this sort has never before been produced in this area,” says Mark Havens, Executive Director of Interlink. “There are many different senior resource directories to help people find services, but no other single publication to help people find each other for common social pursuits.”
With activity categories covering civic organizations, exercise programs, hobbies, clubs, churches, senior meal programs and more, Interlink hopes this directory will help alleviate loneliness and encourage newcomers to the Lewis-Clark Valley to connect in their communities.
