Elk Soup

A Native-led nonprofit organization, Elk Soup empowers Native families and communities in the Spokane region, proactively improving wellbeing and quality of life for members of all tribes. Elk Soup draws tribal communities together by hosting regular events and workshops around education and empowerment, entrepreneurship and socioeconomic development, arts and culture, and health and wellness. Last year, Innovia awarded Elk Soup a $15,000 grant through its Community Grants Program to sustain the staffing and operational costs that make these events possible.

“We are so happy to have such amazing partners that are helping us to achieve our goals much faster than we had anticipated,” says Jeff Ferguson, Executive Director of Elk Soup. “We are looking forward to continuing to serve our community members in ways we’d only dreamt of.”

Spokane is home to members of more than 300 tribes, many of which are not based in the Spokane region. While many Native-serving organizations are funded by and designed to serve local tribes, Elk Soup is uniquely positioned to fill gaps, ensuring members of non-local tribes are not overlooked.

Elk Soup partners with local organizations and nonprofits to assess current needs and compile vital resources for the populations they serve. Through professional development, cultural immersion and opportunities to engage with the greater Spokane community, Elk Soup promotes personal growth and success in individuals and their families.

Guided by its mission to provide Native families with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in today’s world, Elk Soup stays rooted in its rich cultural heritage. With each event and program, Elk Soup supports vitality and connection among Spokane’s tribal members, positioning the organization as a valuable catalyst in bettering our local community.
