Commercial developer Duane Brelsford has many fond memories of his grade school years at Sunnyside Elementary in Pullman. The outdoor camp experience he shared with fifth-grade classmates at Camp Wooten near Pomeroy in 1968 was especially memorable, inspiring the fund he and his wife Terri established at Innovia Foundation.
“The fifth-grade outdoor camp experience has such a profound, positive impact on young people. My camp experiences will stay with me for the rest of my life, and it’s an opportunity that all kids should have,” Duane said.
Duane and Terri invested $5,000 in 2012 as seed money for an endowed designated fund that benefits Pullman Educational Foundation’s “No-Camper-Left Behind” program. They have since added an additional $5,000, so the fund is now earning enough to sustain the Brelsfords’ annual gift to support camp opportunities.
“We are strong believers in outdoor camp experiences for kids, and we knew Innovia would make sure our dollars went directly to support that program,” says Terri. “Ultimately, our goal is to sustain the viability of the camp into the future, and this will help that happen,” adds Duane.
