Couple creates scholarship fund for high-achieving students with financial need

As the first person in his extended family to earn a college degree, Mark Burkett knows firsthand the difference higher education can make in one’s life.

Thanks to a scholarship, Mark was able to attend the University of Pacific, where he earned a degree in electrical engineering. Now retired after a successful 26-year career in the high-technology industry, most recently as a senior executive, Mark is paying it forward. He and his wife Kay have established the Mark & Kay Burkett Scholarship Fund at Innovia Foundation.

“I hope to enable others with opportunities similar to what I received,” Mark said.

The scholarship benefits students in the Inland Northwest who have demonstrated academic achievements, financial need and service to the community.

“If someone has everything going for them to succeed except the education, I hope we can help,” Kay said.
