Family Promise of the Palouse supports homeless families’ long-term success

Since 2013, 53 homeless families with children in Latah County, Idaho, and Whitman County, Wash., have turned to Family Promise of the Palouse for help getting back on their feet.

Family Promise of the Palouse was awarded a Community Strategies grant at Innovia Foundation to aid its mission of serving families in need. The grant will fund a portion of the salaries for the organization’s executive director and case manager.

Through partnerships with volunteer organizations and local churches, Family Promise provides homeless families with not only basic food and shelter but also the support and resources needed to regain stability and independence. The nonprofit agency’s staff help families in the program find employment, learn to manage finances, secure necessary transportation, locate affordable housing and build skills essential to long-term success.

The agency plans to continue helping between 12 and 14 homeless families per year with its full housing and case management program. Family Promise screens more than 120 families in crisis each year for its program, connecting each family to the best community resources for their situation.
