Sarah Cuellar: Professional Advisor Spotlight

Sarah Cuellar is a service-oriented, self-employed attorney practicing in the rural town of Republic, Washington, where she enjoys raising her children immersed in the region’s natural beauty and slow pace of life.

Born and raised in Boise, Idaho, Sarah pursued her law degree at Gonzaga University in Spokane, encouraged by parents who recognized her potential as a lawyer early on. More than simply guiding her career aspirations, Sarah’s parents instilled in her a deep-rooted understanding of privilege and the belief that we should use our resources to help others.

As she was growing up, Sarah became aware of wealth disparities in her community and learned that each person has worth beyond their socioeconomic status. “Everybody deserves the same good life,” she says. In conjunction with early career experience at Gonzaga’s Tax Law Clinic for low-income individuals, these childhood lessons helped shape Sarah’s steadfast drive to do good.

Working with charitably inclined clients at her own law firm today, Sarah empowers others to do good, too. In her estate-planning work, she manages important details to assure her clients that their wishes will be carried out as they intended.

She finds it particularly heartwarming to support clients without heirs who plan to leave their legacy through a scholarship fund. “It’s inspiring when retired persons remember what it was like to try to find the money for college and want to help somebody they don’t even know achieve their dreams,” Sarah says. “I think it’s an act of selflessness because it’s been so long since they were children themselves.”

Sarah believes Innovia Foundation perfectly complements her estate-planning work. The foundation’s extensive experience in managing funds and administering grants creates peace of mind for both her and her clients, allowing Sarah to focus on what lies at the heart of her work: the desire to be of service to others.
