Unusual Gift of Penny Stock Supports YWCA
In the heart of Lewiston-Clarkston, a story of compassion and commitment unfolds, weaving together the paths of Dan and Lorri Hally and the YWCA of Lewiston-Clarkston. This tale ignites a flame of generosity, illuminating the path to empowerment and essential services for countless individuals.
Dan and Lorri Hally, driven by their deep-rooted commitment to community service, made an extraordinary donation to the YWCA’s endowment fund. Facilitated by Innovia Foundation, their gift of penny stocks, a unique and impactful contribution, significantly bolstered the YWCA’s ability to expand shelter capacity and enhance racial justice programs.
The YWCA of Lewiston-Clarkston offers a wide array of services, including safe shelter and extended housing for individuals affected by domestic violence, court support and legal advocacy, counseling, and support groups. They provide a 24-hour crisis line, safety planning, and limited financial assistance for necessities, such as transportation and childcare. Their work in racial justice includes community awareness events and collaborations with the Nez Perce Tribe, underscoring their mission to empower women and eliminate racism.
Lorri Hally, a dedicated educator with over 30 years of experience, has a deep connection to the YWCA. As a former board member, she integrated the organization’s mission into her classroom, bringing YWCA staff to support her students. This lifetime of helping others, both professionally and through volunteer work, made Lorri an ardent advocate for the YWCA’s mission.
Dan, a retired law enforcement officer and board member of the nonprofit Order of Guardians, shares this commitment.
Motivated by their shared values, Dan and Lorri’s generous gift grew into a substantial and impactful donation, greatly enhancing the YWCA’s programs.
“Inspired by Dan and Lorri’s kindness, the YWCA is poised for greater impact,” shares Laurie Lewis, the YWCA’s Executive Director. “Funds untethered from grants offer invaluable flexibility, meeting the diverse and often unmet needs of survivors.”
For Dan and Lorri, this journey is guided by a simple, yet profound belief: “Give, don’t be afraid. Support the people who do the work.”
Their legacy, intertwined with the YWCA’s mission, serves as a beacon of hope for survivors, lighting the path to a future where every voice is heard, and every life is valued.
In the words of Dan and Lorri Hally: “Be creative. So many times, we have assets that we don’t consider for gifts. If you want to make a difference, you have to give. Think long-term. Think of legacies—legacies provide organizations with the means to do real good.”
Their story inspires all of us to give and support the YWCA, ensuring that its vital work continues to uplift and empower our community.
